About Us
Risen Sustainable Development (RSD) is an agency working with youth and women who are from vulnerable communities. RSD is registered charity in Uganda No.206704. This initiative started in 2014 to help communities, work together to better respond to their needs of youth and women vulnerable communities in Uganda. This was established to achieve stable micro businesses and quality of projects (group concept), increased action for youth and women, and influencing decision makers on policy issues affecting youth and women to empower them through micro-credit loans, nurture the character and leadership of youth in the schools, Universities and community.
The Micro finance approach will be implemented through providing loan to women and youths.The women and youths shall form groups and borrowing will be done through groups and be given a grace period of three months before they start to pay the loan. The women and youth groups shall be encouraged to save money and trained in business skills on how to start and manage small scale business.
Uganda has been ranked as one of the most corrupt countries in the world and poor leadership. The character development and leadership training will raise men and women whose character will be of no corruption and good citizens who love their country. The proposed training will help rise men and women of integrity, good stewards of resources, and visionary. The character development approach shall be implemented through training, mentoring and coaching school
children for one year. The programme will follow the school calendar and there shall be a signing of memorandum of understanding with different schools and organizations that appreciate our character and leadership program for the youth.
RSD seeks to be affiliated with an international network of agencies working with Youth and women with the mission of developing the house-hold income, character and leadership development.
Strategic Object 2 Activities
To see at least 2500 teenagers and youths in schools trained in leadership and character
development
- Conduct an orientation meeting with managers of selected schools, universities; before we start the training there shall be a meeting with school managers and education department to envision them about the initiative. Signing of MOUs with schools, Universities shall be done before the commencement of the training.
- Conduct weekly trainings in leadership and character development: the leadership and character development training shall be conducted once a week. The training shall follow the school calendar because it will be done at school to reduce on costs. We plan to have cost sharing with schools mostly private owned schools. The targeted beneficiary shall be students of secondary schools and youths out of school. For the youths out school the training shall be done in a conference way and workshops, three times a year. During the training we shall do mentoring and coaching session to students about leadership. The students under training shall form a club and given a patron who shall be a teacher from that school. The training in character development and leadership will help to bridge the gap in our education system which aims at skills and learning. The trained students will be leaders whose character shall have no question. It will help to prepare the today and tomorrow’s leaders of Uganda and the rest of the world.
- Hold a graduation of students who have undergone the training, mentoring and coaching sessions for a year. After the trainees undergoing the training a certificate shall be awarded upon completion of the course. A graduation ceremony shall be organized for the trainees and we shall invite guest speakers and also use the ceremony as an encouragement to other people.
Strategic Object 3 Activities
To see at least 100 churches empowered to help children and youths experience the love of
God and share it with their neighbors.
- Conduct training for church leaders and Sunday school teachers on holistic child development and making churches child friendly. The training shall target pastors and Sunday school teachers in order to empower them with latest skills in child development, parenting and issues of child protection. This will enable the church to fulfill its God given Mandate of holistic gospel and preparing today and tomorrow’s church
- Train Sunday school teachers for five days in spiritual nurture for children. Sunday school teachers shall be trained for five days in spiritual nurture for children and how to manage classes of different age groups. They shall be equipped with skills on how to use visual aid while teaching children.
- Organize annual children and youth spiritual nurture camps: we plan to hold children and youth conference in partnership with churches. We shall have a curriculum for these conferences and use guest speakers from within Uganda and outside the country. They shall be for five days and residential. This will enable the youths to come together and have peer to peer mentoring and socialize with others in order to create synergy
- Provision of Sunday school teaching materials: the materials shall include visual aid, reading materials children Bibles and play materials. We plan to outsource these materials and provide them to churches and do seasonal teenagers and youth camps for both Ugandan and Refugees depending on the provisions
